Who Helms ‘Hex?’ Hayward Helms ‘Hex.’ That’s Who

Yes, I had to go for the Seuss reference as we find out today, that Jimmy Hayward will be directing Hex. His last Major Hollywood film? Horton Hears a Who. (Also his first Major Hollywood film.)

This makes me cautiously optimistic.
Horton was generally rated as a good film, I have yet to see it myself putting off a lot more of the childrens movies as I know I’ll be watching them hundreds of times, when my daughter gets of age.

Plus the guy did Reboot. Which was an exteremly versatile series going in a lot of different ways. Love it.
They cast Josh Brolin as Jonah Hex. The guys a strong actor. Though the fanboy side of me wants to see Thomas Jane, after he hooked up with some FX guys to do his own costume test.

What don’t I like?
This is the first time Hayward is doing live action. That’s a little scary as you can’t force people to move in precise ways like you can with Animatics. You have to let the actor add his own element (for better or worse) to the character.
They’re going with the Hex that deals with the paranormal. This was done in the later issues of Jonah Hex and in the vertigo miniseries. I figure they’re doing it because they need some slant so it doesn’t come across as stock western with a scar. This will probably be a 2010 tentpole film.

Also, if they pitched it as a Western Version of Pirates of the carribean, It probably meant a quick sale, but just the thought of that makes me have to push back the bile a little bit.

Also, while researching this I came across this article that makes Brolin seem to not be too enthused about the project and that’s not a good thing.

So, Brolin and Hayward on Supernatural Hex film. Your thoughts?
