I’m not generally a partaker of Adult Comics, (though I do occasionally enjoy a collection of Xxxenophiles) but this story about Changes at Diamond could be a bit shocking for those of you that are, as well as for people like me that love the smaller publisher books.
The most distressing part of this for all comic readers, is that Diamond is increasing it’s minimum order, from $1500 to $2500. What this means is that if $2500 worth of a book isn’t ordered, they won’t ship it. We can estimate this is around 2000 orders. If you read smaller publishers, like say Digital Webbing or APE entertainment, or even lesser shipping image titles these titles won’t be shipped by Diamond anymore. I remember reading recently but can’t find where, that Robert Kirkman’s Astounding Wolf-man only gets around 7000 orders.
And since diamond is the only game in town many of these comics will simply cease to be.
Also, Diamond is ending its Adult Previews Catalogue. But I do like that Diamond will move to doing a PDF version of the adult previews, which I wish they’d do with the regular previews as well. On the positive side, my local comic shop orders adult comics, but not the adult previews, but it does have a computer, so “potentially” the comic shop could show this preview on the computer, where it had no option before, and get even more people to pick up adult comics.
More Likely, the stores that do order adult comics will do so even less pushing them below the $2500 barrier, effectively killing the concept of nationally distributed adult comics.
Looking on the brightside, if the adult comics die, maybe things will get easier for the CBLDF….
I’m just kidding. The time is now ladies and gentlemen, support the comics you love, whether porn or not. DO NOT WAIT FOR THE TRADE!!!!! or very, very soon it will be too late.
