The artist changed every few issues so it could be hit or miss, more miss than hit in the teen issues, if I recall correctly. But the series writing is consistently above board and is written in single issues and short 2-3 issue arcs. I think they have their first 6 issue arc coming soon, now 40 odd issues in. There were also some vertigo minis of Jonah Hex, that were more gritty and lost a lot of the feel of the classic books, introducing some heavy supernatural elements, but may be more up your alley if you like more violence in your comics.
