Stopped into Ye Olde Comic Shoppe the other day, and Matt and I got into a discussion about some of the early San Diego Comicon news. One of which being the official title of Tron2, or, as we now know, Tron Legacy.
Now I was never especially a fan of the old Tron film, something which I attributed to having taste. Matt disagreed.
But I just saw this teaser/VFX test/trailer over at CBR and I have to say the new one looks pretty cool.
((edit: switched to youtube video because some browsers couldn’t see the CBR one.))
I like how they eliminated the crappy top down pacman style shots, but you still get the effect in some of the long shots. I like the smooth fluid lines, instead of the blockiness of the original. It is interesting that Jeff Bridges seems to be playing a combination of Flynn and ‘the Dude.’ So that’ll be interesting. And of course it looks like they’re making it ‘darker.’
But this has gone from something I had absolutely no interest in to something, I may be willing to go see is a a step in the right direction. What do you think? And whatever happened to the rumoured Tron MMO and the comic book?

I am a little worried.
I am a massive fan of the original film and this might take the franchise in ways I do not like.
But I am excited by the prospect of anything new and Tron. After some rather lacking games, whick you think would be perfect, a new film might be exactly what the property needs.
It’s odd, I saw this footage leaked last year from SDCC, so this is old for me. Also bare in mind just how much the look and tone of the film could have changed in that year…
I can’t wait for that film to come out and there was a TRON comic, SLG did it. As a fan of the original I’m a little worried, but all one can do is hope that Disney doesn’t take a huge diarrhea crap on it.
