World of Warcraft Comic Dead! will be corpse running into 2010

world of canceled

The World of Warcraft special issue that was out this week will be the last single issue published. World of Warcraft: Alliance and World of Warcraft: Horde have been cancelled, according to IGN Comics. Also, after Starcraft 7 is published in January, you won’t see any issues of that either.

Instead, Blizzard and Wildstorm have decided to move to an OGN format. Hank Kanalz, VP & General Manager of Wildstorm says they’re making this move to “give our artists and storytellers more room to explore Blizzard’s rich, varied worlds and flesh out the characters that inhabit these places.”

“While WildStorm and Blizzard loved the stories being told in the regular monthly comic-book series, we decided that the graphic novel would be a more suitable medium for the tales we wanted to tell next.” What those future stories will entail they have yet to announce, but plan lots of announcements for 2010.

With World of Warcraft making this move and DC’s Earth One Projects is this something DC as a company is shifting towards? What do you think of going to the OGN or series of OGNs as opposed to the traditional 4 issue mini or ongoing series? Would this make you more likely or less likely to check out a new title?
