I used to love Heroclix, back in the early day. I’ve been playing Wizkids games since Mage Knight first came out. I played almost all of their games, aside from the MLB game. Just not my game.
Anyways, I kept with the system as long as my wallet would allow.
Some time after that they decided to change the design of their minis. They originally only kept the figures in standing or flying poses with no extra bits on the base. Then they changed and tacked on environmental bits and cool things, like the green energy fist on this Green Lantern figure.
Then wizkids went away for a short while.
Recently NECA bought Wizkids Games and brought back Heroclix. At least, that’s their cover story.
Here are the facts:
- Blackest Night started around July 15, 2009
- Neca’s special edition Thor figure came out at SDCC 2009, One week later.
- Heroclix was full of emotion. Fans loved the game. You always hope to win, fear losing, and it, occasionally, caused fits of rage.
- Frequently inspired greed with it’s gotta have them all collective aspect.
So, I think Heroclix are actually part of the Blackest Night prophecy. Don’t be surprised if these little bits of resurrected plastic one day rise to tear your heart out.
Until then, I’m really looking forward to this new set of Heroclix featuring DC’s earthbound replacement lanterns. Looks like a cool little set:
Contents:
◊ Seven 3D HeroClix miniatures, each with a character card (Green Lantern – Hal Jordan, Lex Luthor, Mera, Scarecrow, Wonder Woman, The Flash and The Atom in their deputy lantern costumes)
◊ All-new Green Lantern Sciencells Map
◊ 2010 HeroClix Complete Rulebook
◊ Six Object Tokens
◊ Twelve Terrain Markers
◊ Two 6-sided dice
I really hope they follow it up with a Black Lantern set of certain heroes along with Nekron and Scar, with a graveyard map. And I want a set with larfleeze, Atrocitus, Saint Walker, and more of the other lanterns as well. That would be fun. In the mean time Wizkids Games is putting up previews of the new figures every day. I’ve put the first two up here. Looks like they’re bringing the game back in force.
