Comics for Kids… No, Really.

December 17th, 2007

toonbooks_t.JPGI’ve always had a soft spot for Comics aimed at kids because I started reading comics at age 6 and I blame them for fostering my budding intelligence and enjoyment of reading.

So, I’m really looking forward to Toon Books it looks like a cross between a Nicktoon and dr. Seuss, of which, I admit, I love both.

But, I remember the first books I read weren’t aimed at kids and I kind of think they may have been part of the appeal. But these are aimed at 4 year olds, so it may be a bit more effective.

What do you guys think of kids comics? Are you a fan of Johnny DC titles or Marvel age? What comics did you read as a kid?

Move it to the bin!

December 15th, 2007

Recently I was in a LCS, looking for an issue that I had somehow inadvertently missed. (Starlord #4, really good series) Anyways, I scrolled through the wall and there were no annihilation issues on the wall at all. I asked the counter jockey. He procedes to snort in disgust at me and walk over and thumb through the back issue bin. He pulls out the issue (with this stores standard $ .50 back issue markup) I mentioned that the week came out less than a month ago. Annihilation Conquest #1 wasn’t even out yet. He says it’s been 2 weeks, so it goes in the bin.

Does this seem right to you guys? how long before an issue goes in the bin? the other somewhat local store waits until the week after the next issue comes out (so roughly 5 weeks for most issues) with exceptions like 52 where I don’t think they ever moved the issues to the back issue bin. So, what does you Local Comic Shop do? What do you prefer?

How long before a book should go to the back issue bin?
